No phone number

Most messengers begin with a phone number because a phone number is an identity the operator does not have to build. It also ties your conversations to a document you signed at a carrier, and it lets anyone who knows the number check whether you use the service.

QuiNVarium does neither.

Your QuiNVarium number#

The number you receive at registration looks like a phone number and is not one. It begins with +999, a range that no telephone network uses, and it exists only inside this service. It is your address: people reach you by it, and you can give it out without giving out anything else.

What this means in practice#

• No SMS, no verification code, no carrier, no roaming problem.
• Changing your SIM or losing your phone number does not affect your account.
• Losing your recovery phrase does affect it, and permanently. See Back up your recovery phrase.

A username instead of a number#

You can also set a username and give that out instead of the number. It can be changed or removed at any time.
