Groups

Creating and inviting#

People who have already shared their profile with you are added to the group directly; anyone else receives an invitation and chooses whether to join. A group can also have an invite link: anyone holding it can join, and an administrator can require that each request be approved first.

Roles#

Administrators can change the group name and picture, add and remove members, and decide who is allowed to do those things. The person who creates the group is its first administrator.

What the server sees#

Group messages are end-to-end encrypted like any other message, and the group's title and picture are encrypted too. We hold the encrypted membership information needed to deliver a message to the right devices.

Leaving#

Leaving stops new messages reaching you. The messages you already sent stay with the people who received them.
