Sending, editing, deleting, and what the delivery marks mean.
Delivery marks#
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| One | Our server accepted the message for delivery |
| Two | The recipient's device has received it |
| Filled | The recipient has read it, if read receipts are on |
A message that has not been delivered waits on our servers, encrypted, for up to 24 hours, and is then discarded. Nothing about its content is visible to us while it waits.
Editing and deleting#
You can delete a message for yourself, or for everyone. Deleting for everyone asks the other devices to remove their copies, and they normally do — but a copy that has already been read, forwarded or photographed is beyond anyone's reach, including ours.
Formatting and replies#
Messages support replies, forwarding, reactions and quoted text.
