Suspicious assets and dApps
Avoid signing a transaction or approval prompted by an unsolicited token, NFT, website or support message.
An asset appearing in a wallet is not an endorsement. Public networks can deliver tokens, NFTs and messages without the recipient requesting them.
Warning signs#
- an unexpected asset claims a reward or refund;
- metadata contains a website or phone number;
- a page asks to connect the wallet to remove the asset;
- a signature is described as harmless without showing the authorization;
- urgency, secrecy or guaranteed profit is used as pressure;
- support asks for remote access or a transfer to verify ownership.
Safe response#
- Do not open the embedded link.
- Do not connect the wallet or sign.
- Hide the asset if the app supports hiding.
- Verify the contract and project through an independent official source.
- Review existing approvals if you already interacted.
- Move assets to a new wallet if a recovery phrase was exposed.
Signatures and approvals#
A message signature can prove address control, and a transaction can grant spending permission. Read the exact request and domain; reject anything you did not intentionally initiate.
